5 on the Fifth

The theme this month is My Town.  After looking around our town, I decided to go in a slightly different direction, and just post pictures from two places in town.  One is a a refuge for migratory waterfowl, and the other an outdoor museum park.

Clickity to embiggen.

A bit of info about the "line" as it was locally known.

  1. Very nice photos, thanks. It sure looks like a nice area with all the lush vegetation. Somehow when I hear the word Alaska, I just always picture snow and ice. The last one shows that the area at least in the past was 'colorful' as well as lush.

  2. Love the pictures and the stories.

In older times, a lot of those "cabins" were also known as Fast Houses, because of the fast women inside.

  3. Lovely images! Somehow I picture myself that outdoor museum (especially the wet parts shown in the top pic) also being the perfect home for about one billion mosquitoes LOL

  5. Nice pics. :-) I always thought most of Alaska was either in a state of permafrost or snow/ice, lol. It's nice to know that it gets warm enough for some green and flowers.

  6. Beautiful pics! Great effects, too. Have to agree with Daniel about the mosquitos. Made me think about that ride on the Denali highway with a many dozens of those (not so) little buggers in the truck cab.

  7. Nice pictures! The flower is beautiful - great color. And the sign, well, it is just too fabulous for words!
